Howdy, y’all! It’s been a whirlwind since we moved back to San Antonio December 2023, but one thing that’s been at the top of our to-do list is revisiting the San Antonio Rodeo. It’s been over five years since we last attended, and now that we’re a family of five, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce our kiddos to this Texan experience. Despite the windy and cold weather, we all enjoyed rocking our cowboy boots and soaking in the lively atmosphere!
This year’s rodeo ran from February 8th through the 25th, and let me tell you, it was a blast. If you missed it this time around, mark your calendars for next year because the rodeo is scheduled to run from February 6th through the 23rd, 2025.
What is the Rodeo?
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the San Antonio Rodeo, let me give you the lowdown. It’s not just any rodeo; it’s a sprawling extravaganza that brings together thrilling rodeo competitions, live music, delicious food, carnival rides, and a sense of community. Held annually at the Frost Bank Center (formerly the AT&T Center), this event attracts thousands of visitors from near and far, all eager to experience the unique blend of tradition and entertainment.
At its core, the San Antonio Rodeo is a showcase of cowboy skills and athleticism. From bull riding to barrel racing, steer wrestling to bronc riding, you’ll be on the edge of your seat as riders and animals alike demonstrate their prowess in the arena. And with prize money on the line, the competition is fierce!
Celebrating the Texas Culture
The rodeo isn’t just about the action in the arena. It’s a celebration of Texas culture and heritage from start to finish. Wander through the grounds, and you’ll find vendors selling everything from handmade crafts to cowboy hats. And the food? Let’s just say you won’t leave hungry. From sizzling barbecue to indulgent fried treats, the culinary offerings at the San Antonio Rodeo are sure to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites.
Let’s not forget about the live concerts! With performances from some of the biggest names in country music, there’s no shortage of toe-tapping tunes to enjoy. But perhaps the best part of the San Antonio Rodeo is the sense of camaraderie and community that permeates the entire event. Whether you’re a seasoned cowboy or a city lover experiencing your first rodeo, you’ll be welcomed with open arms by the friendly locals who take pride in sharing their heritage with visitors.
So, whether you’re a Texan native or just passing through, be sure to saddle up and experience the San Antonio Rodeo for yourself. It’s an event unlike any other, where the spirit of the Wild West is alive and kicking – and where memories are made that will last a lifetime.
