Did you know Hopscotch San Antonio houses some of the most interactive art installations in Texas? Here’s what happened when I visited with my mom.
Discovering Hopscotch San Antonio
Hopscotch San Antonio has been on my San Antonio bucket list for over six months, and I finally had the chance to check it out! My mom, who’s an artist, was visiting a few weeks after the holidays, so I decided to surprise her with a mother-daughter outing. I figured it would be the perfect way to spend some quality time together while also soaking in some creative inspiration.
A Mother-Daughter Art Adventure
Hopscotch is located in downtown San Antonio near Travis Park, making it super convenient to get to. We parked at the St. Mary’s Parking Lot, which was just a quick two-minute walk away. When we arrived, we checked in, and although I had purchased tickets for 7 PM, the host let us know we could grab a drink from the bar and take as much time as we wanted exploring the exhibits. No time limit! That was such a relief because we could enjoy the experience at our own pace.
Drinks and First Impressions
We each grabbed a cocktail (their drink menu blended in uniquely with their exhibit!) and took a moment to enjoy the beautiful artwork in the lobby area. It set the tone for the evening—playful, creative, and fun. Once we were ready, we ventured downstairs to the exhibits, and let me tell you, we were in for a surprise.
The Ball Pit: A Nostalgic Dive into Fun
The first thing we saw on the bottom floor was a giant ball pit! I immediately turned to my mom and said, “We’re both getting in!”. I fully expected her to laugh it off or decline, but to my surprise, she went along with it! Watching her jump into the ball pit was such a rare and unexpected moment. I can’t even remember the last time I saw her let loose like that. It was such a joy to see her playful side come out, and we both ended up laughing until our sides hurt.
Our Favorite Exhibits
After the ball pit, we explored the rest of the exhibits, and each one was a sensory feast. There were interactive light installations, rooms that played with sound and perspective, and immersive spaces that made us feel like we were stepping into another world. One of my favorite exhibits was the one that made you feel like you were starring in a music video. It created the illusion of hundreds of you, mirroring your every movement. My mom, on the other hand, loved the trampoline exhibit. It responded to every jump and step with bursts of colorful lights, making it a truly interactive and mesmerizing experience.
Every corner of Hopscotch offered something unique and unexpected. From colorful displays to thought-provoking installations, it was clear that this place wasn’t just about art. It was about creating an experience that sparks joy, curiosity, and connection.
